How to make Coffee Sugar Layer for drinks

Making Coffee Sugar Layer is a fundamental skill for bartenders and drink enthusiasts who want to add a subtle coffee flavor to their favorite drinks. Coffee sugar layer is a flavorful and useful ingredient that can be used to balance flavors and create a deeper complexity in cocktails and mocktails. Here is a simple guide showing you how to make your own Coffee Sugar Layer to use in your drink creations. Coffee sugar syrup can also be called coffee syrup.

Recipe for Coffee Sugar Layer

Ingredients

  • 1 part strong brewed coffee
  • 1 part sugar (regular granulated sugar is recommended, but you can also experiment with other varieties such as cane sugar or Demerara sugar).

Equipment:

  • A saucepan
  • A spoon
  • A container with a lid to store the coffee syrup

Instructions:

  1. Measure ingredients: Start by measuring out 1 part strong brewed coffee and 1 part sugar. This ratio is the basis for the Coffee Sugar Layer and can be adjusted to your personal taste.

  2. Mix the ingredients: Pour the coffee into a saucepan and add the sugar. Heat over medium heat and stir continuously until the sugar is completely dissolved and the mixture is reduced to a thicker consistency like syrup.

  3. Cooling and storage: Remove the saucepan from the heat and allow the Coffee Sugar Layer to cool to room temperature. Then pour it into a container with a lid for storage in the fridge. Coffee syrup usually keeps in the fridge for several weeks.
